please pass the ions, love

art by Michael McQuarrie

where have you gone in your closed nucleus
if you lose me i’ll find you again
closer to deceleration
there is no time for particle ejection here
no string theory to explain our quantum ties
this isn’t a weak force between us
arresting me in the massage of your hair

I just can’t see you
when the clouds shudder
your name through the dark
continent, undiscovered
where you sweep away shame
please let your rain out
please, love

the thunder hides your voice
when I’m losing you again
undulations as inaccessible
as the underbelly of each ion
whizzing by ironically or irrationally
if all love were simply a result of ionization
wouldn’t we do well to dance
through these thunderstorms
together?
