“Reflections in a True Mirror”

It had been so long,
but suddenly,
suddenly you were there-
There so casually.
Reflections in a True Mirror:
your eyes
still kind
and daring,
daring me to walk with you,
walk away with you.

Shy glances couldn’t hide,
hide the thought
that we should seize,
seize this time right now.
The feel of fall
all around,
despite the warm night air-
How about you take my hand,
take my hand just so?

But friends and family
stood nearby,
stood nearby not knowing,
unknowing of our stares,
our long enchanted glancing-
the unspoken chemistry.
We mustn’t let
our lustful thoughts
be caught by them,
not ever.

So their steps propelled us
past this stolen moment.
Our quiet fancies floating far
in the autumn air;
leaving wonders only,
wonders if we dare?

Bravely now in hindsight,
I strike conventions down
and lock them in a drawer.
Then, I choose to take,
take your wanting hand-
Hold it gently knowing
You will then command,
a further moment
where we kiss
on a quiet street.
All mirrors moved aside-
Oh, how I’ll return your touch,
stare into your eyes
and honor passion’s guise.
