Summer’s Lament

Summer’s lament
Days shorten
Nights cool
The fire wanes
As Autumn nears

Green begins to dry
Brown around the edges
As the juice
Rises lower
And slower

My lover’s lost
I think
Her gaze
Less hot
Her touch more faint

Bring it back
The sun and heat
My heart cries
For springtime
And love’s begin
