You shared a secret

You shared a secret
that was no secret at all
It is written on your face
It emanates from you like the
fresh spring air after a sudden downpour
I felt it long ago
and I think it felt me too
resting like a leaf
on a low pool of water
that found its path as a result
of the way
I will do my best not to squander
a gift given so generously
offered without expectation
of reciprocation or recompense
I will hold you to my heart
as the wind holds the birds
the ground holds the trees
the eye holds the light
