Devotion

Devotion
at the broken altar,
the toppled offering
and shattered lamp —
dewy black depths
of exquisite pain,
such lost distance
I’ve never seen;
dewy blued eyes
engulfing my vision.

I forced my gaze
from fathomless deeps
of despair, hopeless,
lost in the dark:
gone with the light.
