One Moment

Now,
this moment,
I know sorrow
like never before,
yet
cannot say
it was different
in the past;
though
I would gladly
choose past tragedies
instead of this agony
of
keen foresight,
intense awareness
and bitter memory.
I
am standing clear
this one dying moment,
and realize
that
one day
I may say
of today
“Things
were better then.”
God willing,
I will remember.

In the beginning was the word. And I got paid for it.
