drop them. leave them.
follow me he calls.
should I stay?
should I go?

the only life I’ve known
sea and shore
fishing for the days wages
the comfort and familiarity of the waves

drop them. leave them.
follow me he calls.
could I stay?
could I go?

follow a madman, a stranger
to fish a different catch
to sail a different sea
why leave these nets that secure me here

drop them. leave them.
follow me he calls.
would I stay?
would I go?

the truth rings deep
but truth unknown
his invitation beckons like a command
that pulls me in to shore

drop them. leave them.
follow me he calls.

I decided to go back and look at what it must have been like for Peter when he was first called. The way it’s written in Matthew 4:18 makes it seem so instantaneous and clear. And I’m sure there was a certainty in Peter’s decision. At the same time, I remembered my own call into ministry, and my own journey in the faith. It was very much a starting point, a first step in new life.
