Hired to Care

Photo by Sheri Hooley on Unsplash

Workdays at sunrise I drive east.

The smudge of pink in the last cobalt

Of the night sky beckons me.

The stars brood above the treeline

Then are silenced by the dawn.

The children of others are waiting for me,

Their Mary Poppins without the magic
