A stranger’s dance

Seconds turned to minutes,

Slowly drifted by the soft prance

Endearing and consuming

The twirling scents and steady breaths

Fingers interlaced, laser focus,

Totally engulfed.

Two strangers, drowned in their own abyss of thoughts

Brought by circumstance,

One just finalized a divorce and the other was a widower who would have been celebrating his anniversary.

In utter dismay of consequence, they swirled to the music.

Steady left then right

Close yet so far .

Distraught, aching.

A warm embrace of what would be and what had been.

To each their poison; gulped and drained.

An evening walk and a smoke break outside the neighborhood joint.

A warm smile , welcoming even .

A shared longing, distance in both their eyes.

No names, just sheer coincidence

Perfect time , perfect place .

At a glance, they were both alone in a room of crowded youthful souls.
