A Typical Scottish Summer Evening

Today the bite of toothed frost nibbles
on velvet dusk and rain-spume dribbles,
and ice that melts in springtime breeze
forms antique petals with consummate ease.

As darkness descends like a shroud of smoke
silhouetting the blackened oak,
gentle drumming on the window pane,
the sound of gentle rain, again.
