In This Age of Casual Hook-ups

In this age of casual hook-ups,
Love has become a joke.
People have the confidence to jump to the third base,
But shudder to say those three words.

Since getting a number is not a big deal anymore,
Things come to us easy.
The value of the chase isn’t there anymore,
And then we crib saying he broke up with me that easily.

The excitement for one call,
Has changed to texting these days.
Checking the phone constantly for a message,
Has ruined our focus on work and productivity during important exams and meetings.

If only we retained the value words had during the '90s,
Where letters were still written and feelings were shared over cassettes and audio CDs.
The anticipation to read or get home and play that song,
Secured the next date as we replied to that letter with the details of the next meeting.

We set standards for ourselves,
Where walking up to someone and talking to them showed true confidence.
Where even if you fumbled to talk to someone,
The eyes would show the genuine feelings shared by the person.
Now we have screens and filtered pictures with emotionless words,
Where the only detail shared is an address and the flat number to meet in.
