Fear for breakfast
After a cup of coffee and the news
Fasting from fear but feasting
on more information to fatten up

Denial for lunch
A side of salad and water
What remains of a stale donut
And one more cup to get through the afternoon

Did we eat an early dinner?
Or have we filled up on
That which hollows, which fools us
Enough to sleep but not rest

Between the sunrise
And the sunset
Between back then
And not yet
Falls the shadow

Spread out as a picnic blanket
lay the hidden feast
for those with surrendering whimper.
Is this the way it begins?
