Ἐπανάγαγε εἰς τὸ βάθος (Luke 5:4)

Life within reach is no life at all,
but a return to the old way
pulling in what will satisfy for now
but fails.

It is never as good as what it costs.
Or is it? I know better but persist.
After all, it is what I have.

Teach me to hate what I have
compared to what You give.
Make me sick of ‘good enough’
Lest I forfeit what is truly good
and what is more than enough.

You.

I hear, let me obey.
I believe, enable my feet to act as if it were true.
Your Apostle waves to me also,
the harvest is sinking boats,
busting nets, it splashes baptism water
on my fleshly eyes.

My eyes, cloudy eyes, rinsed.
May I always have nothing
— that my emptiness be openness
to the catch of your kingdom.
