Grandmother and teenager having tea together. cottonbro studio

Do you think important people drink tea,
Or is it only grandmothers
Who may or may not be major players?
Could be grandfathers too.

Things might go better
If Presidents who are grandfathers,
If leaders of currently warring countries
Drank tea.

Do you think they’d munch on Rich tea biscuits
Or cucumber and chicken sandwiches.
Would it be black or green or oolong?

My grandmother drank Lipton tea
With milk and sugar
And so did I when I visited.
For me she was an important person
And with my teacup so was I.

And, yes, things were always better
After tea, no need for biscuits.

Set out the cups.
Heat the water.
If peace on earth
Depended on it,
Wouldn’t we?
