Good Friday

A poem

A father loses his daughter to a rare disease,
An airstrike wipes out a family of Palestinians,
The transphobes use ‘common sense’ as fuel for bigotry,
Good Friday.

A child’s mother has stage four cancer,
A car accident rips away hopes for a surprise sixtieth birthday party,
An operation gone wrong leads to the death of a Priest,
Good Friday.

A prodigal son remains lost,
A President casts out the innocent,
Another drone kills in Ukraine,
Good Friday.

Each step to Calvary is agony,
The cross as heavy as all history,
Trudging towards execution,
Good Friday.

Good Friday is a bitter day. Harry Hogg has written about bitterness.
