Our Masks
A Poetry Playground Poem
She hides behind a pretty mask of red
Donning a gown of taffeta and gem
A fake smile accentuated with dread
Whenever they share a similar bed
Friends ask about his depressed mask of blue
Family does not pretend to care for him
Or his struggles with life and love and you
Whenever they discuss matters so true
Perhaps removing our masks would be best
‘Our true forms are ugly,’ I say in jest
When in truth, she is even prettier
And I am overjoyed now my mind is clear

Hello everyone. I was on the other side of what ended up being a nasty break-up a few months ago. We brought out the worst in each other, but now have an opportunity to be our best selves.

A poem from last week’s prompt that I read and loved is Nancy S Rust’s Shifting Demands. Check it out!
Another poem from last week’s prompt you should read is Miriam Connolly’s Depths of Courage. It’s fantastic!
