Poetry Playground Writing Prompt #33
A Dog’s Life
It is time for another Poetry Playground Prompt! Before that, note we need a new editor. More on that further down!
Last week’s prompt was well-received and some deeply personal and thoughtful poems were written. A few are selected for your enjoyment later.
This Week’s Prompt
Before all of that, this week’s prompt. Prepare for sadness.
Yesterday, my parents’ dog came to the end of her life. In just a few short days she suddenly deteriorated and the kindest thing to do was let her wait in Heaven to bring us a slipper when we get there.
Bitter tears fell down my cheeks as I remembered many good times with her. Maggie was a gorgeous, kind-hearted Old English Sheepdog.
Her role was to bring joy and hope into our lives — isn’t that what all dogs are for? We welcomed her into the family during a difficult time, and named her Maggie because it means light.
Maggie did her job splendidly. She was affectionately known as ‘Maggie Mayhem’ because she was unaware of her tail and would regularly knock things over with it.
