Some chick on TikTok
steals poems from writers
of romance, the sentiment
of which evades her experiences
to cast stones at revolving door lovers,
playing musical chairs in her life
of broken dreams as another door slams shut.
Her tears splash into her half-empty wine glass
like a downpour with no shelter in sight.
Her lips quiver with loneliness
that she houses in the shadow of her failure,
selling writings, I kid you not,
on Kindle for far more than I’d pay.
The prose contains riddled holes
so say the reviews.
misspelled words, blank pages,
lack complete tone.
I’d be mad if I didn’t feel
so sorry for her.
We complicate poetry by writing
for anyone other than who we are.
Our truth changes based on what we
accept as life’s beauty.
Sell the poems,
but at least give credit
to others for lending their truth.
