The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, but the journey to one’s own heart begins with a thousand miles
~Lao Tzu

We all wish to enjoy our vacations
where we can
or pretend to escape from reality
Yes, same is the case with me
but the difference stands out
when we visit a spiritual land in the quest

Imagine Vrindavan
land of legends
where Krishna’s laughter echoes through the trees
and cows are practically celebrities
Here, the monkeys might steal your glasses
but leave you a stolen heart in return

Mayapur
the soulful melody of chants
where even the river hums hymns
and the temples stretch their spires to touch the sky
Devotees dance in a trance
their joy infectious
like catching a smile in a sea of faces

The streets are alive with stories
painted walls whispering ancient tales
Rickshaws are our chariots
carrying through history and honking saints
Peacocks strut like they’ve got VIP passes
proudly parading their rainbow feathers

In Vrindavan
every corner’s a postcard
a fusion of past and present
where time seems to pause
just to take it all in
You might find a wandering sage
giving life advice better than any self-help book
the most enriching experience

And Mayapur
oh Mayapur
where the air is thick with devotion
and prasadam’s sweeter than any dessert
There’s a cosmic joke in every temple bell
a reminder that even divinity has a sense of humor

The spiritual heart here mingles
with those of the fortunate devotees
creating an atmosphere of sacred and silly
It’s a place where peace and laughter coexist
where divinity isn’t so serious
after all

And yet, even after these places being
so close to my home and heart
they remain an ever-longing desire
akin to another trip to foreign Germany for research
Funny how we search far and wide
for what’s been under our nose the whole time

Sometimes, the closest journey to our hearts
requires a passport and a bit of faith

So, here’s the deal. I wrote this poem because I’ve been dreaming of visiting Vrindavan and Mayapur for a while now❤
It’s not just about the sightseeing, it’s like how Germany is my future destination for research and learning, but Vrindavan and Mayapur feel like another kind of journey for the soul. With this writing prompt, I couldn’t wait to capture that longing to escape the everyday grind for a bit of spiritual exploration and also add a dash of humor to the mix — because even the most profound quests can be a little funny. It’s like wanting to visit a sacred land while planning for academic trips. Closing with a note — Sometimes the most meaningful journeys are those we dream about, even when they’re just a step away from our reality.
