Another Poem about Vacuuming and Death

In fighting the entry of this planet’s soil

onto my carpeting,

I am once again sullen and resentful

at this prospect, this vacuuming. Sucking it all up

is too much effort, in the scheme of things

in the face of famine, fire, influenza, and worse.
