July is always disturbed
My birthday brings memories
Of childhood…parents
Silence and cruelty reverb

Yet August dawns brightly
Brings with it the sun
A mind that feels freer
Heart lighter and louder

Despite the rain that falls outside
Meadows bloom within my soul
This new month feels fresh to me
Sunflower joy shows outwardly

Like bursting from darkness
Into glittering light
A weightless seed blown free in the air
Released to blue skies, flying high.
