A View From Outside

An office chair is in the middle of an empty room, with debris and broken materials surrounding it. All is in black and white, with dark shadows in the background.

The room is now empty —
red pencils and dust,
old letters still pending
of sloth and mistrust.

An era is over,
the farce at an end.
No question of action,
just of wasted space.

A vacuum left running
yet sucks out the life
of all that come near it —
and fall in the vice.

The line has been forming
to fill in the blank;
the story’s not over —
new souls for the dust.
