crook of darkness, ever hungry

the summer night is thick with flies
and lies
under a thresh of stars
i make my bed
the meadow poppies croon
with sugar-dipped cotton
lies like moonshine daydreams
twisted and hungrier for the hollow
than hunger alone ever could be
the crook of darkness ever-welcoming
beckoning with honeyed voices
over split teeth
blackened as my
fingertips
