In the car, surrounded by five men, fear consumed me. I felt overwhelmed, struggling to understand why this terrifying situation was happening. My phone constantly vibrated in my pocket. I knew it was Mom calling, but thankfully, it didn't ring out loud.

“Why are you doing this, Daniel?” I questioned in a trembling voice.

“Shut up!” Daniel retorted sharply.

Before I could utter another word, his friend, the one with the pistol, silenced me abruptly.

They blindfolded me and tightly bound my hands with tape. I was taking through a bushy area, the sounds of crickets signaling nightfall, I could sense the scent of damp leaves in the air. Someone pushed me and shouted, “Walk fast!”

Eventually, the blindfold was removed, and I was thrown into a room with 11 others, four students in school uniforms and seven young girls. We were all females.

I approached a girl named Janet, in her early twenties, I noticed scars on her body. She recounted how victims were acquainted with one of the kidnappers, much like how I had met Daniel.

She described being drugged and waking up here. Not only that, but she revealed a horrifying truth to me—“There were over 20 of us, and every night, one girl was killed. Rebecca was taken in front of me”, she said, and every night she prayed not to be the next victim. I was petrified.

Suddenly, the door burst open, the man called Scorpion walked in—the one with the pistol. Janet had mentioned his name earlier. He shouted in a scary tone,

“Today na Christmas day, and we get some very important senators' wey want extra parts. Tonight, we'll kill two extra people for our VIP senators.”

He laughed malevolently, indicating that those he pointed at were the chosen ones to die. He chose a girl in a school uniform first. She screamed and fought as they dragged her away.

Determined to flee, I found a shard of glass and quietly freed myself. Another girl fainted, she was carried off by hefty men. He pointed at Janet, terror in her eyes as she clutched my hand, pleading for me not to let go.

“I won't let them take you,” I promised.

Summoning my courage, I lunged at Scorpion, I stabbed him with the glass. Immediately, I cut the tape around Janet writs, and quickly freed her.

“Run!” I shouted, pushing her towards the door.

Scorpion boiled with anger, but before he could retaliate, armed policemen stormed in, overpowering the kidnappers.

The police found Daniel locked and restrained in another room. He, too, was a victim—forced into this dreadful scheme to protect his family. Daniel had been coerced into orchestrating my abduction.

As the authorities apprehended the criminals, tears overwhelmed me. Janet and I clung to each other, our bond forged in shared horror.

Mom arrived in quick response to the police call, with teary eyes, she gave me a warm hug. Too exhausted to recount everything, a police officer detailed the ordeal to her. It was indeed a dark Christmas.
