Elysian Pink Meadows

Autumn Impressions

As drops of pink, crimson and gold dripped into protean clouds

And musings wedded the unreachable splendour of the empyrean

I was mesmerised – Breathed in, breathed out

My nostrils and chest were replete with melancholy and a sense of foreboding

Reminiscing over all those days of yore – when I used to perch alone on the school stoop

When I shielded against contemptuous eyes – Since the boys used to play games I’d never wanted to play

When I stopped my ears from vicious lips – Since the girls used to act mean towards each other

The smell of roasted maroons and smoking chimneys

Decadence borne in the October air — gently lifting up my hair

As the pink and the blue danced and

Commingled in mutual passion — ‘fore the urgency of the day died away.

Blissful as I swung high, fretting over the fall

like that bronzed foliage forsaken by the trees – Too weary from too much summer heat

As I turned my back, I was enraptured by the sea and its wonted quiet

And I scanned the incarnadined offing
