Help Me Or Not, But Do Not Stab Me In The Back

God Save Me From My Friends. I Can Protect Myself From My Enemies

STAB IN BACK

My enemies are out in the open
With swords and spears for all to see
But hidden snakes do bite much deeper
Through smiling friends who claim to be

I’d face a lion’s fangs with laughter
Its purpose plain as day
Before the smiles of false affection
That lead the heart astray

Foes show intent to bring me down
By force of arms they make their stand
Friends wound with flowers from the ground
Deception’s Kiss, a dagger’s hand

God, be thou shield from smiles untrue
And guard from praise that’s but a snare
For foes I see what they will do
Friends’ hearts, an unknown lair

If storms around my ship should gather
And help you will not lend
Still spare your friendship’s hollow flatter
That aims my sail to rend

Help or refrain, your choice is clear
If friendship’s mask you wear in vain
The cleanest cut needs none to fear
Friends’ hurts cut far more than any bane

In God alone my refuge lies
Where truth and faith will always dwell
Shield from charming traps of guise
More than revealed foes’ arms that fell
