My dog Lucky was restless. He didn’t want to sleep and more importantly he didn’t want me to sleep. His barking was non-stop and I knew I had no choice. I had to let him out in the back yard so he could do his business.

I lived in a pretty remote spot in North Scottsdale, Arizona and my closest neighbours were about twenty five feet away. The good news was I had very bright lights in the back as I wanted to deter any crazy wild animals, (Coyotes in particular) from deciding to visit. It allowed me to go out with Lucky and watch him run around. The back was fenced in, but I still kept an eye on things. Coyotes were pretty smart and if they wanted to get over, under or around the fence they could do it.

I threw on my sweatpants, plus a tee shirt and told Lucky to get moving, I wanted to get back to sleep. We went downstairs and I flipped on the switch to turn on the lights outside and nothing happened. I tried three times and Lucky started crying which indicated that he really needed to relieve himself. I did a quick look for a flashlight and found one with a very dull light. I opened the door and Lucky bounded out. I didn’t have his energy.
