lines through the heart

a dividing line
straight through the heart
harsh cuts across the looping arteries
black and white gnawing away the red
doors closing with cosmic force
powerful and hungry
as time and clocks
hands that never hold
nails blackened from clawing at the past
needle in hand trying to unstitch the timeline
too late
the line is here
cutting off
angularizing
the loamy dirt packed into the flower pots
separated from the earth and rain flows
but still the poppies will grow
something always does
