out of the rut
battle, half won.
A twenty-something, mediocre chap fresh from college
hungry to take on the world with his little-gained knowledge.
Feared being judged because of his vibe;
He was slightly scared of corporate life.
Slowly and steadily, he climbs the ladder
with the support of a few friends and his alma mater.
One month, two months, and years turn into decade.
He was happy, proving people wrong who ever doubted his competency
all the way long.
A twenty-something boy was now a thirty-some guy
He peaked, he shined, and made a name for himself
possibly conquering every peak he could ever think of.
But little did he know about the phases of life.
that make him one day deeply realise
Everything that glitters is not gold and
his definition of success, which once made him happy
slowly made him uncomfortable, and the hunger went crappy.
Coming of age and looking for purpose, unsure of his next move
He was contemplating giving up the only idea of success he always knew.
A long-fought battle between his idea of success and identity,
he knew it was time to embrace reality, so comes the day he gathers the
guts to finally get out of the never-ending rut.
Soon after, he finds some support and same old doubts from society
but this time on the line was his sobriety.
So, turning a deaf ear to the naysayers, he turns to rediscover his mid-years.
Fulfilment and finding happiness within are new peaks he seeks to discover
He knows this time it’s about the big picture so he knows this time is about
digging deeper. Never being afraid of a fight,
he knows that, at the end of the dark tunnel, there is always light
It’s a long road ahead and the beginning is tough already
marred with doubts, although several bright possibilities.
But in this chaos, one thing remains unchanged:
faith in his ethos and ability to accept guidance
I know he will come out victorious on the other side
with grit, confidence and his unwavering belief
A day will come when he sighs of relief.
