Experience can be really useful but it can get in the way. While age can determine your perspective, coming into something fresh at an older age can mean not carrying the baggage that comes with years of experience.

In the groove but not the rut
Fleeting thoughts though not of foot
Well thought out yet not well read
Not behind but not ahead

There’s something new under the sun as every day begins
The mountains stand like statues but with new stubble on their chins
Their wrinkles deepen as their kippahs shine
The morning sun accentuating every line

When old is old and new repeats
Like blankets on new laundered sheets
The pillow in its pillow case
All fresh but in the same old place

Those hoary habits painted brilliant white
Don’t look so fresh in more revealing light
Their fraying cuffs though rescued with a trim
Are still best hidden, covered up – or gathered in
