A chilly walk brings joy because
It may be chilly but I am not bundled up
I am standing on dirt, not snow
I am chilly because the air is touching my skin
My old dog smiles behind me
Plodding along at her own pace
When some deer cross our path, for a moment,
She imagines herself young again
A hunter, a matriarch
And provider
She looks up at me as the deer leap away
My sweet old girl with her pit bull smile
Walking by my side as we make our way home
