Rage
She’s in me — screaming, wailing,
Voice loud and unyielding,
Silenced but still burning within,
Rage — a girl I’ll always know.
Taught to swallow every shout,
To keep her tucked away,
While the world hates me for even feeling it.
She wants to break free,
To be seen,
To demand attention.
Rage — a girl I’ll always know.
But I’ve been told to hold my tongue,
To hold so tight, it bleeds.
To smile through clenched teeth.
Rage —
A girl I thought I could forget,
But she whispers,
No, I’m not leaving,
She cries,
“Don’t let me go”
Rage —
That girl, that lady.
That woman, that friend.
That mother, that daughter.
That sister, that human.
She lives in us all.
Rage —
We’re cursed and blessed to know her.
