I have a friend,
who once was a lover,
But it turned out ‘he’
Was really She.
Beautiful and sensitive
Playful and clever
But no longer together
Under the covers,
Our relationship
Had to change.

She makes a better pal
Anyway, if truth be known,
But it was an odd stretch
Of time, supporting,
Mourning. celebrating,
Learning to keep
Loving the same person
As they became just
Who they had always
Wanted to be.
