She Called Me Friend

She called me Friend
When I thought I had none;
Nonjudgmental,
Like a mum to her young.

Caught by surprise
When she hugged on my shoulders,
I felt like a child,
Though I was ten years older.

She said, “We all learn
At our own pace.”
And then she smiled
And touched my face.
