His lids open before crack of dawn.
A stifled yawn to begin his day.
Out the window, his eyes scan the sea.
Lest his sleep be lost in vain.

The rickety boat creaks in trepidation.
Lest the wrath of sea fall unto it.
Undaunted though he is by crashing waves.
Lifts does he his row to set sail.

The breeze tousles his uncombed hair.
Powerful waves toying with his boat.
He rows in vain, his boat off course.
Perchance today be his last day to sail?

Alone in the hostile sea.
Fearing his boat be capsized.
He unfurls the net, upon which fish lay.
To cling onto if his boat fell.

Fortune seemed to deal the cruel hand.
Waves menacing his taut mind.
Yet, in futility his angst shall die.
The waves roaring indifferently.

His fatalism ushers in benevolence.
For the waves subside in time.
He regains his lost strength.
And begins to row ashore.

The beach seemed oasis amidst sea.
Gratitude inundates his moribund soul.
He cries in relief, his feet touching sand.
Alive upon this Earth one day more.
