Her and I

We’ve been one and observers
I’ve been doer, at times
alone to understand sounds
— that music is empty
It can only exist in time

Didn’t breath connect us? River
and mountain. I’ve been seeker
only from you sought
captured in this emptiness
our bed and time spent edging
between sleep states and holding hands.

When I asked my mum not to
tell her pastor who you were
you said

That’s a good idea

But she didn’t think it was.
Why does my mum hold the pride
we boast? I’m not afraid with you
I’m just not empty!
