First Kiss

The couple in question… a few years after the kiss and the fountain in question

Standing in front of the fountain
He takes her hand and smiles
“I read your letter today”
She worries that she pushed
Too hard, too early

He turns and looks into her eyes
Her smile comes on slowly
She realizes that it wasn’t
Too early or too much

He leans in for a tentative first kiss
She returns it tentatively
Passion grows in both
The kiss becomes stronger

Both afraid the other would think
Them inexperienced and pull away
Both unaware how new this was,
Neither kissed nor loved before

This heady thing called love
This wonder of a first kiss
Discovering each other
Finding the match to their soul

A first love gotten right by chance
Grows for years, decades, a life
Together still. Each remembering
That sweet loving first kiss
