Love Me Like My Pen
Inspired by Anna Breslin’s collection of poems titled Love me like ordinary things and Tasneem Kagalwalla’s poem Love me like my bag

Pens are my passion,
Doors to other worlds
Still lurking in my memory,
Composing in my imagination,
Leaking out drip by drip,
Drop by drop
As the ink from my pen
Love me like my pen —
Inspire me,
Draw me out,
Let me hold you
Warm and snug
As I hold my pen
Waiting for words,
Often slow to come
Love me like my pen —
Stand steady, unbending
When ill winds blow
From outside forces
Or from me —
My pen knows my temper —
How often it flies,
Returning to forgive me
Again and again.
Pens in rainbow colors
Delight me like a child —
Shall I write in lavender?
Or fuchsia?
Perhaps indigo?
Parody my pen,
Paint my world
Vibrant and jazzy,
Sassy and sexy.
Love me like my pen,
And I will love you
Like the words that
Flow from my pen
Steady
Creative
Compassionate
Intimate and
True.
