Under Cover

Under cover of darkness,
you make me smile.
I give an inch
and you take a mile
of my heart
to unravel
and drape
across our bodies.

I want to stay like this —
soft, no shell,
your touch molding
the places that hardened
under careless touches,
calloused by persistent pain.
You have done
what I could only do
in vain.

We find out why
we are starved
for each other,
we are
hunger and fullness;
a simultaneous oneness.

Don’t stop
this transcendence,
even though
we never planned this.

We can stay
under cover of darkness.
