What Can I Say

What can I say that was unsaid before
Of love, what higher feeling did I know?
Nothing and none. And yet, I must express
This feeling of unbounded happiness
I have at knowing you are of this earth
And are able to give me a fresh birth.
I find in you the joy of lasting youth
And the strength known to those who possess truth.
Feelings run high and words crawl on the ground,
Yet I must capture them and set them down —
I feel if I were grass you would be spring,
If I were a bird, you would be my wings:
If you were a valley of sweet clover
I would come to you as a grazing deer;
If you were the shore I would be the sea,
If you were a flow’r I would be the bee
Encased in petals and drinking nectar —
Yet somehow you remain far as a star.
But I know no despair because I know
That, as surely as waves rush to the shore,
Some day the law that gives the sun the dew
Will bring you to me — I belong with you.
