The staircase of the abandoned Central Hotel in Annan, Scotland. The interior has extensive fire and water damage. The stairs are carpeted. There is white mold everywhere. There is a rusted chandelier still hanging.

I created the poem on this page based on documents and media I found about the abandoned Central Hotel in Annan, Scotland. I looked at building descriptions, TikTok videos, and historical websites. I combined some ghost stories at the end.

I love abandoned buildings and the towns where they’re found. This poem is intended to bring awareness to a place that was left behind.

Take a trip with me
down memory lane:
the staircase of the abandoned
Central Hotel, Annan, Scotland.

Bicycle wheels scattered on the floor,
mold-encrusted walls,
severe water damage,
red velvet stairs,
broken panes of glass,
and a rusted chandelier.

What guests once stayed here?
Who worked the desk
and who tidied the rooms?

A haven for pigeons,
fungus-covered pathways,
a piano swamped in mildew,
and a safe with faded words.
