26 Years

26 years passed fast
after that last grasp at power;
last hour replete
with complete defeat;
last painful refrain,
waning fight drained;
only shame
from lying and hiding
remained.

From bottomless blight,
dim became brighter,
lighter became light;
power beyond mine
offered its face,
an outstretched hand,
a tender embrace,
a place to land,
where grace
outpaces willful disgrace.

Surrender brings gifts
of clearing tears,
displacing fears,
debts paid in arrears,
off my perch above
makes way for love,
erasing strife,
embracing life,
an awakening to hear
a god always near.

Who knew it would last
26 years?

Love. Be mindful. Practice acceptance. Keep the long view. We'll be okay.
