40 Years Later

Grease drips down their chins
as they enjoy thick burgers with
cheese caressing the edges
They remember the years
they celebrated with roses
pearls and champagne
that sent the cork darting across the room
It’s different now
Their love is wiser
quieter
but more constant
The burgers sit heavy in their hands
The smiles are light on their faces
Their feet briefly dance under the table
in an unspoken celebration
