A carpet of white

A carpet of white

Stretches away to the horizon

Though broken by it’s own lumps

And bruises

It is benevolently unaware

Of our intrusive presence

In its midst

How small we must seem to the world

How much smaller to the universe

Yet here we are

Challenging the sky

Reshaping the planet

And exploring the cosmos

Laid bare before us

In harsh indifference

Miniscule we are, indubitably

But our reach extends ever further

Towards the stars

In search of meaning,

Purpose and perhaps an answer

To that age old question,

“Are we alone?”

Of this however, we must be certain

While our answers may lie within

Our ambitions will take us ever outward

And what turned the sky into our carpet

Will one day, make neighbours Of the stars
