A Cliche Was A Truth Once

A cliche is a truth

We all got bored of

A proverb is a cliche

With staying power

Why bother with words

If they only dull us to reality?

We’re addicted I suppose

But if we can find a new way

Of expressing some eternal truth

It returns the thrill to the ordinary

It gives poets something to do anyway

Find news ways of describing the familiar

And forging new paths to the memory

Of the forgotten, all lost and rotten

Waiting to be reborn

in the light of consciousness

With so much entertainment

Dedicated to forgetting

We’ve all lost so much

There’s pain in facing

Our failings in meeting

Our youthful ideals

But somewhere buried within us

Is a pure truth

Worth remembering.
