A Favor

Unfamiliar with these soft parts
the light faded when she was a child
all things cast in shadow
She has stressed to me,
whispered in my ear
the way an average lover may say good morning
that she hates a happy ending.
I am thankful because I am afraid.
I don’t know how deep we can go
Perhaps she expects me to drown
and she’d sink with me
just to watch and be sure.
She’d watch me drown,
but at least I wouldn’t die alone.
