A Girl

I wait patiently just for a girl
With a smile
Like the lake
To the west
Of my hometown
Where we dipped
In our vests
And nothing else

I wait patiently just for a girl
With a smile
Like the streetlights
Back in town
In the nighttime
Full of boys
And girls who just want
To have a little fun
Full of boys and girls who just want a little fun

I wait patiently for just a girl
But I know
She won’t show
Like a rainbow
In the Spring
If the rainfall
Does not fall
And so we play
In chlorine waters
Just to get rid of the excess heat
