A lie for a lie

A story I recite
Uncommonly common to my fright
First of my kind
Two unrelated destinies
Meant to cross
Situations so arise, making them wise
Conveying a message, a message for all

Standing at the cross roads
He and She
Some unrelated ties of another life
They meet again to discharge the debts of their past

Successful and arrogant
Debonair and imposing
Whimsical humor, mercurial temperament
He had many goods, many vices he possessed
Independent and strong
She would accept no wrong
Attractive and astute
At a precarious junction
She was stuck in a tricky situation
Both were awestruck
Blinded by her ingenuous eyes
Heavy with the burden of the past
She was blinded by his innumerable virtues
He showered love, to the object in front
Embraced her, offered her with emotional succor
Unwary of the devils within
And so emerged a new surge of emotions
Virtuous and pure
Platonic attachment extending to the soul

As time passed by, multiple events began to unfold
The journey became arduous, survival seemed tough
He gave her no space, he believed in absolute dominance
She, on the contrary, couldn’t be controlled
Intense clash of egos leading to the imminent dissonance
Love lost its sheen, it ceased to be clean
Bittersweet sensations, feigned emotions
Multiple pretensions at multiple depths
Severing several ties, corroding several bonds

Vehemence of his reactions was out of spite
Incongruity of her demeanor she didn’t wish to hide
Both couldn’t condone, had they both a heart of stone
They tried to stitch, brick by brick
No longer free to re-join
Like two sides of a coin
They continued the façade
They had to coexist, they had to last
For as they grew they had tied
Multiple threads of their discrete lives

Games they play, silently they lay
Her face puts up a fake smile
Isn’t it a pity, Play the fool or be witty
In a whirlpool of stuck emotions
Mandated by the bonds they once sowed
Along the path they daily walk
Hugs so wry, Smiles so dry
“I love you” he lies
“Love you too” she rep’lies
Together they strive, together they thrive
Together they live, A lie for a lie
