A poem for leaving

Evil breakfast fruit

I would have you
As the crispest of sunrises
And the bird’s commotion
Startled by dawn

I would have you
Like the hymn of the sea
Chanted through
Against
And bellow the docks

Like the first deep breath
After opening our eyes to the morning
Still curled around dreams

Like summer.

Rippling into my lungs
In all its carelessness
As if
Meant
To drown me.

To Robin.
