need not to happen in order to bring people together
we are at a standstill, yes man, yes
if there is no effort;
for we — in turn, can decide each day,
(and each moment)
to be a point of connection.

There are no rules there that tell you “no.”

Together is a choice – although naturally,

in grief we seek to find meaning — and a common connection occurs.

II

We look down in hallways and corridors — not making eye connection because, it can be painful sometimes
I know, tough guy.

I see you walk down the stairs outside
for a cigarette: I never join you. I can’t smoke.
I’m alone. You let out a breath.
The smoke bursts out and curls up.
I say a silent goodbye with my distance.
